OPEN WATER DIVER
The Open Water qualification is the first certification level that allows a diver to dive independently with a dive buddy.
Required age/certification level
Minimum age: 10 years old
(Note there are special rules regards depth limitations and training procedures for 10-11 year olds.)
The program is conducted in a classroom then in a pool or in a confined water environment and in an open water environment with a maximum depth 18 meters / 60 feet. Ratios are dependent on the environment, the people conducting the program and the age of the participants.
Course Overview
The classroom part of this course can be conducted traditionally or on line via e-learning.
Participants must be able to complete a 200 meter/yard swim or a 300 meter/yard snorkel followed by a 10 minute tread-water/float.
Participants must prove mastery of the open water knowledge development modules 1-5, complete confined water training modules 1-5 and open water dives 1 - 4

Where can you go from here?
The Open Water program is the foundation for all further diving qualifications and training. You can elect to do adventure dives, commence a program of speciality courses, each would be credited towards your advanced diver qualification, or go right on to do the advanced diver course.
